The Netherlands is not only famous for its tulips and windmills, its maternity system is just as outstanding. The Dutch tradition of a free choice of place of birth including home birth is quite unique in the western world.
The leaflet 'Midwifery in the Netherlands' will provide you with lots of information about the Dutch maternity and midwifery system, and touches upon some of the challenges we face.
This statement 'A New Balance in Midwifery Care' describes our vision and mission on midwifery care in the Netherlands.
The Royal Dutch Organisation of Midwives (KNOV) offers certified midwives from abroad an introduction to the Dutch Midwifery system. The program has the capacity to place approximately eight midwives yearly for a two week period.
The next programme will take place from the 22nd of May – 2nd June 2017. Dead line for application is closed.
The program is described below. Read the article in magazine 'Malta Midwives Association' about the experience of a midwife with the KNOV Dutch Midwifery Summer Course.
