The KNOV acts as spokesman to the authorities, other professional organisations, health insurers and many other organisations in healthcare. The KNOV also maintains relations with the press. By acting as the spokesman, the KNOV wishes to project itself as a strong occupational group with a clear ambition.

The KNOV furthermore acts as a legally recognised representative of its members, during negotiations on income and the market position in healthcare. In concrete terms, this involves subjects such as reallocation of tasks, professional personnel planning, guidelines with regard to cooperation with third parties, first and second line training programmes and income (first line normative fees and allowances) and terms and conditions of employment for obstetricians in first and second line care.
