“De geboorte van een kind is ook de geboorte van een moeder. Zij heeft haar innerlijke kracht ontdekt.”

Obstetrics Science Committee

In 2008, the KNOV installed the Obstetrics Science Committee in order to make recommendations as to how first line obstetrics can be further substantiated scientifically. In March 2010, the Committee issued its recommendations to the KNOV. They have drawn up a research agenda for Physiologic Obstetrics and advises to implement this in the years to come. This agenda also ties in well with a personal research domain for obstetric research.

The KNOV has introduced the first endowed chair for First line Obstetrics. As such, Professor Simone Buitendijk is the first Dutch professor in First Line Obstetrics. The Committee advises to introduce additional endowed chairs within the research domain. It furthermore recommends setting up a network organisation for obstetric research. The main objective of this network organisation, the so-called Midwifery Research Network Netherlands (MRNN), is to facilitate research. The Cooperative Obstetrician Training Programmes can set up this network in conjunction with the KNOV.

The Recommendation on the Development of the Obstetrics Science Domain can be downloaded below.
