Our opinions

The KNOV is keen to share its opinion on certain subjects. In alphabetical order:

Breastfeeding
Obstetricians are ideally suited as care providers when starting and continuing the process of breastfeeding. Women are assisted therein by maternity assistants.

Commercial stem cell storage
In 2002, the KNOV took up the position that obstetricians are not responsible for the (correct) commercial collection of stem cells. In January 2006, the position was reassessed and maintained.

Preconception care
Since 2006, obstetricians have been organising 'starting-a-family consultations' . This is because a healthy pregnancy starts before conceiving: the so-called preconception care.

Prenatal registration/screening
the KNOV believes that prenatal screening should form part of first line care. For women with a medical indication for specialist care, prenatal screening in the second line is available.

External version
the KNOV aims to ensure that each pregnant woman with a breech presentation is offered the external version procedure.
