KNOV
“De geboorte van een kind is ook de geboorte van een moeder. Zij heeft haar innerlijke kracht ontdekt.”
Mission and vision
Mission
The KNOV aims to strengthen the independent position of obstetricians within the Dutch healthcare system. We are also continuously engaged in improving the quality of obstetric care.
Vision
The KNOV aims to provide each woman with the opportunity to be guided by a local obstetrician, during (or when preparing for) pregnancy, during childbirth and during the maternity period. If so required, the hospital can take over the care. Women regard obstetricians as the most obvious choice of medical professional in the reproductive phase of their lives. This is characterised by the special and personal relationship of trust between women and obstetricians.
Women and children are the focal points in the care provided by obstetricians. The efforts by the obstetricians are characterised by the belief that the reproductive process is a normal process. Pregnant women are in control of their own lives and wellbeing. This leads to a stronger position for the woman, who is able to influence her pregnancy and delivery as favourably as possible. The relationship with the obstetrician enables her to make choices that best suit her situation.
KNOV policy
Various policy documents are available to KNOV members, showing how the mission and vision are translated into policy plans for the near future. KNOV members can find these documents via the KNOV Policy page.
Vision on quality: discontinuing the improvement process means losing professional expertise
Obstetricians are systematically engaged in improving the quality of their work for all those that experience that quality or who are affected by it: clients, other care providers, health insurers and the inspectorate. Obstetricians who can demonstrably invest in their professional expertise are registered in the Quality Register for Obstetricians.
Practices that offer a demonstrable high quality can become accredited in accordance with the KNOV Practice Accreditation®.
