KNOV
“De geboorte van een kind is ook de geboorte van een moeder. Zij heeft haar innerlijke kracht ontdekt.”
International
In addition to activities in the Netherlands, the Royal Netherlands Organisation of Obstetricians (KNOV) is also involved in projects abroad. For example, the KNOV, together with its sister organisation SLMA, works on the Sierra Leone Twinning Project, which was started in August 2009. Main objective of this project is to reduce child and mother mortality rates (millennium targets 4 and 5) in Sierra Leone. During a project meeting in Freetown, concrete, joint objectives were formulated.
The Twinning Project forms part of a series of comparable projects that involve more than noncommittal cooperation in that concrete targets are pursued. This is the first time that two obstetric organisations work together in this manner within an international context. The WHO and UNFPA health organisations support the Twinning Project, as does the Sierra Leone government.
